Questions about sintered oil-impregnated bearings
-
Are there any points that require particular attention in the handling of sintered components?
-
1. Do not handle product boxes roughly during transportation (i.e. avoid throwing, dropping, or placing heavy loads on boxes, etc.)
*This may lead to destruction, deformation, or damage.2. Do not expose product boxes or components to high temperature environments.
*This may lead to oil loss from inside the components.3. Do not get product boxes or components wet, expose them to humid environments, or leave them near chemicals.
*This can cause rust.4. Ensure that no dust or dirt accumulates on components.
*This can cause performance deterioration.5. Do not wash components with solvents or other such substances.
*This can cause oil to be lost and lead to function deterioration, and rust.6. Do not place components on paper or cloth (fabric).
*This may lead to oil loss or the accumulation of dirt.

What is the lifespan of a sintered oil-impregnated bearing?
-
It is largely possible to determine the lifespan of a bearing by looking into the consumption volume for the bearing’s oil under the actual conditions of use.At the start of operation, the temperature of the bearing increases, which along with other factors causes consumption volume to increase. But as operating time elapses, the consumption volume curve begins to flatten. In the case of a bearing with an initial oil-impregnation ratio of 20vol%, the bearing can be considered to have reached the end of its life when the oil-impregnation ratio reaches 60% of the initial level.

Questions regarding sintered machine parts
-
Tell me about the composition of the compacting mold for sintered machine parts.
-
Ex) Compacting with one upper punch and two lower punches
In the case of compacting for a product with the kind of boss flange shape in Figure 1, pressure is applied from the top and the bottom to a mold with a die, a core rod, one upper punch and two lower punches shown in Figure 2 to achieve the specified shape, dimensions, and density.

Tell me about post-processing for sintered machine parts.
-
Depending on the purpose, the following post-processing is performed for compacted and sintered products.
Process Explanation Sizing Further compression to achieve specified dimensions. Coining Further compression to achieve a specified surface shape. Caulking A process that uses a press to create plastic deformation in part of the material and fix other components in place. Press fitting A process that uses a press to apply pressure to and join multiple components. Oil impregnation A process that impregnates the pores in a sintered piece of material with oil. Mechanical processing A process in which machining, hole drilling, polishing, and other mechanical processing is performed. Heat treatment A process that is carried out through a combination of atmosphere, heating, cooling, pressure, electromagnetism, and other such things to give a metal product the required characteristics. Barrel polishing A process where a product is rotated with a polishing agent or is placed in a vibrating container for polishing. Has dry and wet variations. Steam treatment A process where a ferrous sintered material is heated in superheated steam to form a ferrosoferric oxide coating over the entire surface including open pores. Impregnation A process where the pores in a sintered body are filled with oil, wax, resin, or other such substances.
